James Hudson Taylor
'If I had a thousand pounds, China should have it; if I had a thousand lives, China should have them. No! Not China, but Christ, can we do too much for him?'
Those words echoed through the life of Hudson Taylor, who at 21 left his home for the vast and mysterious land of China. With some medical training, he landed at Shanghai in 1854, beginning the work that was to blossom into the famous China Inland Mission,
Always to be seen in Chinese dress, and often living in genuine poverty, James Hudson Taylor died in China atthe age of 73. Despite the trials of persecution and disease, more than a thousand missionaries were by that time following the example of the man to whom God said, 'Go for me to China'.
